eBay and CFDA Collab: You Can't Fake Fashion!

eBay and the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) are currently working together to fight counterfeit goods and celebrate original design within the fashion industry.

Combating the supply and demand for counterfeits and those who manufacture and distribute such items requires the coordinated efforts of the government, the fashion industry, law enforcement, businesses, and Internet users like you. As a major destination for fashion shoppers, eBay is committed to partnering to fight the global trade of counterfeits. (Source)

As of yesterday, March 20th, an exclusive collection of 80 handbags customized by several different designers launched on eBay. All of the designs read "You can't fake fashion". Proceeds from each sale will benefit the CFDA Foundation.

Some of the designers include: Badgley Mischka, BCBGMaxazria, Betsey Johnson, David Yurman, Diane Von Furstenberg, Kate Spade, Kenneth Cole, Narcisco Rodriguez, Nicole Miller and more.

Every one of the designer bags are already sold out, but three of the four non-designer bags are still available. I can't find any information if the bags will be re-stocked or not, but if anyone knows, please let me know in the comments!

The sale will run to March 31st.

CFDA Duffle Tote - $45 (I'm thinking about snagging this one!)

CFDA Tote by BCBGMAXAZRIA - $200

Tote by Brian Wolk&Claude Morais of RUFFIAN - $200

  1. That's fantastic! I love finding affordable and fashionable items but I would never be caught dead wearing a knock off. A lot of people don't realize that counterfeit products often support organized crime and in some bad cases - child labour.

  5. This is such a great campaign! In Indonesia I can't go a day without seeing at least one fake bag. We have endless supplies of them here and once my mom was even tricked to buy one. So sad!

  6. I honestly have no problem with counterfeit products. Yes, they usually contribute to some "shadier" business. But I don't necessarily agree with the business practices of a lot of designers either. I've purchased designer bags and had them fall apart on me - to the point where It would just be the same to get the knock off and be able to replace it.

    ...Is it bad that my first thought was that these would be pretty easy to counterfeit? 8D;;

    1. I have to agree with you, no problem with "imitation" brands at all :)

    2. Designers pour their hearts into their work, then their ideas are stolen and they don't get paid, many go out of business (even brands who seem established). In addition, child labor is a common means of manufacturing counterfeits, this is not only inhumane but simultaneously costs the USA millions of jobs and billions of dollars. The money gained from counterfeiting then funds human trafficking, terrorism and warfare among other things. I suggest instead finding a great vintage bag, or unique one that you love. Maybe an up-and-coming designer, or support a local one. Below I have included links to sources that will give you more information on why it is so important not to fund the fakes. These CFDA "You Cant Fake Fashion" bags stand for rights of intellectual property, economic and physical wellbeing of those involved and integrity. Be fashion forward and find your own style rather than buying a knock-off.
