Trying out the Olay Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System!

"Designed by a team of dermatologists along with Olay, the Advanced Cleansing System is as effective as a system sold by skin professionals for nearly $200.* Professionally and clinically designed to cleanse 6 times better**, the Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System also sets your skin up for supersonic anti-aging moisturization." (www.olayprofessional.com)

So, this system supposedly cleans your skin 6x better than using your regular cleanser alone. And because it exfoliates your skin, all of your skincare products will be more effective on your skin. You may notice your everyday cleanser working better, your moisturizer doing a better job moisturizing, etc.

The Advanced Cleansing System ($30) contains a 2-speed cleansing brush and an exfoliating cleanser (.68 oz). The cleansing brush is battery operated (no plug) and includes (2) AA batteries. The cleansing brush is detachable, and once your brush becomes old, you can purchase the cleansing brushes separately for around $10 for a pack of two.

There are two buttons, an on/off button and a button that controls the speed at which the brush will rotate.

I've been really interested in trying the Clarisonic for the past couple of years now, but ranging from $149-$225, they aren't exactly affordable. So, I decided to try the Olay Pro-X as a less expensive alternative. I purchased mine from Target for $29.77. It's about a dollar less at Walmart, and about $5-6 more expensive at CVS and Walgreens. If you're lucky enough, you might have a P&G coupon that will take a few dollars off the total price.

So far, I've only used this twice and I really like it. What's different with this and the Clarisonic is, that the Clarisonic vibrates, whereas the Olay Pro-X actually rotates. Do I think it makes a difference? Personally, I don't think so. I love that it's Water resistant, so I can use it in the shower and I love how gentle the brush is. I was a little nervous at first that it was going to be too scratchy and harsh on my skin, but it's not scratchy at all. It's actually very soft. I like using it on the higher speed, as I feel it does a better job. Also, I'm loving that it's fairly silent. It doesn't sound like I just started a lawn mower, like some of my electric shavers.. Lol.

So far so good, and I'm very excited to use this as a part of my daily skincare routine. I broke out terribly this past week, and I haven't introduced any new products to my skin - so I think my skin was lacking major exfoliation.

I'll keep you updated within the next few weeks of my thoughts and overall opinions with this product.

*Have you tried one of these or similar? I know several companies now have similar battery operated cleansing brushes.. I was going to purchase a Sun Labs one a while back that can be used on the face and body, but I never ended up getting it. The only similar thing I've tried in the past is the I-Skin Intelligent Microdermabrasion System, which worked great - but the head isn't a brush, it's a sponge.. and you can't purchase replacement sponges at Sally's. How dumb is that?? And I'm not going to purchase a whole set for $30, when I only need a new sponge.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  5. I've been using the Olay brush since New Year's Eve and I LOVE it! My skin has cleared up quite a bit too. It does an excellent job of cleansing/removing makeup. One of the best things I've purchased in a while.

  8. I have the Clarisonic Mia (which is the smaller, more affordable option). I absolutely love it and couldn't imagine washing my face without it. Prior to the Clarisonic I was using a $5 face brush from Sephora, which also worked really well if not just as good.

When I saw the Olay version come out I was curious to see how well it would work rotating. I just imaged it would stop rotating depending on how I would move it or how hard I would press. I like that the Clarisonic doesn't rotate, but then again I may love the Olay version. I do plan to buy it, if not to use on my face to try it on my body (even though it's not large enough for that purpose, but still, to make good use out of it if it didn't work out for my face).

  9. This is SOOOOOOOO awesome! I wanted to try the Clarisonic but aside from the price I actually use sugar to scrub my face at night instead of soaps because my face is pretty sensitive so I'm afraid of trying soaps so what better than chemical free sugar?! :) I might give this one a try though cause for $30, why not!?

  10. i have this too! i think it works really well, although i haven't tried any others so i don't have anything to compare it to. i've been using it on the lower setting because im worried the higher one might be too much for my skin.

  11. I'm on the fence about it, but might try it bc of the price, I REALLY want the Clairsonic Pro (which is alot better than the original) my esthetician told me that the Pro has 4 diff. speeds and is just better all around? So I might give the the Olay a try though, I like to feel the brush move though.

  12. Darlene - Yes! I'm so excited. I hope it lives up to my expectations. Which, I don't expect THAT much.. but I am expecting less breakouts.

    Redz2486 - I'll definitely keep you all updated! I think it's a great deal!

Jaime - So happy to hear some positive feedback. Awesome!!!

msStephaniexo - Thats great! This was pretty much an impulse buy, so I didn't read any detailed reviews. I went by the word of a couple of people that it works well. haha.

CHAOTIC COOKIE - :) I'll keep you updated for sure!

Crystal Valentine-Burhans - I was using a facial brush as well (a few dollars from Coastal Scents), but it was a little scratchy.. and it made my face dry out a bit with daily use. So I now only use it on my body.

That's a very good point you bring about how you thought it may stop rotating with the amount of pressure you use.. considering that's what happens with my Crest Spinbrush.. haha! But I just tested that.. and pressed very hard and it didn't stop or slow down. It only slowed down when I pressed it extremely hard against my face, which you wouldn't do anyway! So far I love it, and I wouldn't doubt you will too! :)

  13. Dani - Sugar is awesome for your face! I'm looking forward to trying lots of scrubs now with the Olay Pro X. Some brown sugar tonight sounds like a good idea! :)

It's a great gift idea as well for $30!

Eileen - That's wonderful! I'm probably use to harsher brushes, so both settings felt very nice to me! :)

MARIA - I really want the Clarisonic pro too. I'll probably get one sooner or later. Unless I feel there is no need to with this product. We'll see!

  14. I was thinking of buying this before I got my hands on the Clarisonic. I was dying to try the Clarisonic for a super long time and recently my husband finally bought the Clarisonic Plus with Fresh limited edition set at Sephora not too long ago as a surprise gift (I love the whole Fresh line). I've been using it for about 2 months now and have noticed a huge difference in my skin. My husband has even notice how soft my skin feels. I don't normally get a lot of break outs, just occasionally on my jawline or chin but i've noticed since I started using it my breakouts are even less frequent and less noticeable. My foundation has never looked so flawless and I notice I that I don't have to use as much. I use it twice a day in the morning when I shower and at night b4 bed. I love the body brush too. And here's a lil secret... my husband is hooked on it too! and... he hates all skin care things lol The only difference I see with the pro and the plus is that the pro has 4 speeds and the plus has 3. I just use the normal speed and find that the other 2 speeds are not that big of a difference. I hope this this Pro-x does a good job for u! Let us know what u think after u've been using it for awhile. I think it would make good gifts!

  15. I was dying to try this as well and when I went over to Wal Mart to buy it, I spotted a Wal-Mart brand one (I believe the brand is actually called Spa Resource in Canada) that looked identical to the Olay one. I felt the brushes on both and they also felt the same. Since the Spa Resource one was only 8$, I bought that one instead and I LOVE it. I've noticed a huge difference in my skin and I feel like when I don't use it my skin isn't nearly as soft or even. It's HG worthy for me :)

  17. I own the Clarisonic and the Olay Pro-X. Bottom line, the result is very similar! :) Both make your face feel so smooth and look just amazing. I would stick with your Olay Pro-X and save yourself a lot of money. XX

  18. I'm really glad I bought this cleaning system. A little instruction about how often to change the brush head would be nice, but I can live without it.

  19. I was going to buy the Clarisonic Pro but after a little research decided against it because once the battery goes and doesn't take a charge any more you are left with a useless piece of equipment where as with the Olay Pro X once the batteries are used I can just change them out.
