ELF Studio Complexion Perfection Powder
Product Description: Create a balanced and radiant complexion that is beautiful and healthy. The lightweight formula evens out the skin tone and absorbs excess oil. The sheer formula brightens, mattes and neutralizes the skin. The colors are meant to be blended together as the Blue neutralizes orange, the Green neutralizes red, the Pink neutralizes grey and the Yellow brightens and neutralizes red. So whats the theory behind having a powder with four different colors? Well, like mentioned in the product description above, these colors will neutralize certain tones your face may have that you'd like to correct.
Look at the color wheel for instance. Any color you'd like to neutralize, find it on the color wheel & across from it will be the color that it will cancel that certain color out.
It goes as follows:
Yellow cancels out Purple
Green cancels out Red
Blue cancels out Orange
Pink is in between red & violet & it will cancel out Green/Blue
This is why yellow & peach are such a great color to use for certain skin tones under the eyes. My undereye darkness is purple and I use yellow or peach toned concealers to correct it. Peach is in between yellow and orange, so it will counteract yellow and blue.
Many people that have redness in their face look to green primers that will neutralize their redness. Some also dab green correcting concealers on red blemishes or redness around the nose.
Anyhow, does this powder work?
My Review: I've been meaning to post this review for over a month now, but I wanted to wear it several times before writing a proper review. So, the question is if this powder works? My answer is Yes it does. It does for me at least. I like using my MAC 224 or Sigma E40 and swirling it into the yellow and set my under eye concealer with it. It doesn't help diminish my dark circles.. but it's nice to have a yellow toned powder for the under eyes to aid in camouflaging them. I naturally blush easily - you can't tell because I always wear medium foundations.. but I put it to the test and used the green powder when I wore a light foundation where my redness peaked through. It actually did a wonderful job zero-ing the red out. When all four colors are swirled together, it creates a white translucent powder. I don't put it all over my face... but I do put it over my t-zone to keep shine away (as well as under my eyes like I mentioned). It does a pretty good job. The powder itself is a little powdery.. and can look chalky. So you have to be careful when you apply this not to go overboard. I can imagine that this powder may accentuate dryness and would be better suited for normal/combo/oily skintones. I also noticed when I use this powder, since it neutralizes all of the redness and other tones in my skin - my face isn't left with much color. So, I need bronzer and blush to put some color back into my face. This would be great for those who don't wear foundation as well to reduce shine and color correct. I've even used a little on George's cheeks to tone down his redness.. haha! I made him believe it's not really makeup. Also, one more thing - since blue cancels out orange.. if you're a user of self tanner, and you wear self tanner on your face, the blue powder can help tone down any orange.
Physician's Formula sells similar color correcting powders that retail for 3-4 times as much as this ELF Powder. So $3 for the powder is really a good deal. I nabbed it for $1.50 on sale! One extra thing I like about the powder is the compact. It's large and fairly flat and can be easily slipped in the cell phone pocket of my handbag. The large mirror is also a big plus!
