Guerlain Perles D'Azur Meteorites by Emilio Pucci Review, Photos and Swatches!

Guerlain Perles D'Azur Meteorites by Emilio Pucci

Guerlain Perles D'Azur Meteorites ($59) is a illuminating powder that gives the skin a natural, radiant appearance. There are six different colored pearls that come together to create a harmonious veil of light to the skin. The blue and pink pearls counteract yellow toned in tired complexions, beige and orange bring warm to the complexion, and ivory and white reflect light without a white cast. These particular Meteorites were limited edition from the Guerlain Summer Collection.

I find Meteorites something really hard to explain, but something you almost have to experience yourself.

I don't really like setting powders because I feel that many times by adding powder on top of liquid foundation, the powder can have the tendency to mattify the skin too much making the skin appear unnatural. But this powder absorbs the shine from the foundation without erasing the natural glow of the skin. In addition it will balance redness/discolorations in the skin and add a bit of luminosity to the skin.

I don't like much shimmer other than an occasional shimmery blush or highlighter, but I do wear Meteorites on a daily basis and I don't find it to be noticeable. Sometimes I apply a good amount on my face, and sometimes I'll apply a light dusting, but I'll tend to skip any extra shimmer if I'm applying a good coat.

With many shimmery products after several hours and the skin becomes oily, shimmery products tend to be more obvious, but I don't find it to be the case with Meteorites. Shimmery products also tend to make the pores appear enlarged, but with Meteorites, my pores actually appear softened.

Application

There are really no wrong ways to apply Guerlain Meteorites because it's such a subtle and forgiving product. I apply Meteorites as my setting powder, and to make sure my makeup stays in place, I like using a dense brush because it will pick up the most product. The brush I usually use is my MAC 134 Large Powder Brush. It's a fairly large, dense brush so I can tap the brush into the container and press the powder into my face. Sometimes I like using a kabuki brush, such as my MAC 182 Buffer Brush. For a light dusting, you could surely use a stippling brush or any powder brush. I prefer using a natural bristle brush because it distributes the product a little better. I haven't tried the actual Meteorites brush, but I've never really been too curious because the ratings aren't that great.

I have very balanced skin, and I don't get dry or oily and this works fantastic for me. I think it's great for dry skin because it will add a subtle radiance to the skin that sometimes dry skin is lacking. If you're looking for oil control, this does a fairly good job, but you might want something a little more budge-proof if you get terribly oily throughout the day. I set my undereye concealer with Meteorites and it stays put all day.

Do I notice a difference in the way I look when I wear Meteorites? Yes. I don't know if anyone else would, but I can tell that my face has a natural satiny finish. It's a bit different than the finish of my regular liquid foundation. I've got my Mom hooked on these as well, and I can tell that her skin actually looks younger and more radiant.

All-in-all, not everyone will have the same results, but I've had nothing but a positive experience with using Meteorites for the past year. Some will love them, while some will think they're overrated. It's quite a large investment for a product that's difficult to test in-stores - you really have to try it all over your face without any other powder. It's a bit of a gamble, but the powder is no doubt a good value. Guerlain Meteorites hold a whopping 1.05 oz/30 g of product for $58 ($59 for this particular limited edition one). With daily use, it will surely last over one year. I remember when I use to only use MAC Blot Powder and I would go through one compact a month!

Also the packaging is noteworthy. I'm a sucker for pretty packaging (aren't we all?) and I love the art deco style design on the container. Meteorites are definitely a pretty item to keep outside of your vanity to visually enjoy on a daily basis.

Lastly, I didn't mention that these pearls have the beautiful scent of violets. At first I wasn't too crazy over the scent, but shortly after I've come to absolutely love it. You can smell it when you apply them, but I don't ever detect the scent once it's on my face.

Terrible photo, but I wanted to show you what my face looks like with foundation and the meteorites only. (I bleached my eyebrows, btw.)

My makeup several hours later (my blush looks a little blotchy today.. whoops.)

Have you tried Guerlain Meteorites? What are your thoughts about them?

The Round-Up
Pros:
  • Mildly evens out skintone
  • Controls oil/mattifies the skin without taking away the natural luminosity of the skin or foundation
  • Adds a subtle glow to the skin without looking shimmery or shiny
  • Good value - will last a long, long time.
Cons:
  • Isn't ideal for travel/carrying in your bag for touch-ups.
Price: $59, Neiman Marcus. The regular Meteorites can be found on the Sephora website for $58.
