So, as you may know, I already reviewed Maybelline The Falsie's Flared Mascara last week (you can check it out HERE) and although I do like it, it seems to flake a bit throughout the day. I decided to purchase the regular version of Falsie's out of curiosity to see how they compare.

Here's a look at the brush. I've never used a brush quite like it before. It's slightly curved and flat, while the underside is fluffy.

Here's a comparison of the brush next to The Falsie's Flared brush. A couple people have mentioned that the brushes are the same - but they are not indeed the same. The Falsies brush has a flat side where it curves, and is also skinnier and longer in comparison to The Falsies Flared. The Falsies Flared is yes, also curved but is fluffy all the way around and a tiny bit shorter. They both have that little groove on the wand for flexibility. I like both brushes, but I favor the brush of the regular Falsies better. The flat curve makes it so much easier to get to the base of my lashes and coat all of my lashes.
The Falsies has a bit of a wet formula in comparison to The falsies flared and it builds volume very quickly. It does seem to lengthen very slightly, but for me, there's much more emphasis on volume. With continuous strokes of the brush, the volume builds very quickly. You really only need a few sweeps and you'll be done - otherwise you'll risk your lashes clumping together. It is definitely a clumpy mascara - which personally I don't mind because I usually apply 2-3 coats of any mascara for lots of volume. This mascara seems to do that quicker. You may like this mascara if you like L'Oreal Voluminous or YSL Faux Cils. I love the fact that I never have to apply a second coat of mascara to my bottom lashes.. it gives enough volume with a few sweeps.

My main gripe with this mascara is that it almost dries to the consistency of a "tube" mascara and it's very difficult to comb through your lashes with a spoolie or lash comb, unless the mascara is still wet. For a better end result, I find that cleaning off the brush at the tube opening will help lessen clumping. Once the mascara is completely dry, it leaves the lashes semi-stiff, so it holds a curl pretty well.

Sorry, this wasn't the most flattering photo of the mascara on my lashes - it's a super close up, so you can tell some of my lashes were clumped together, but in person, it looks much better. You can also see a full-face photo of me wearing this mascara in my most recent FOTD a couple of posts down. Also, if you check out the review page for this product on Makeupalley, there are loads of photos uploaded of others wearing this mascara. Check them out HERE!

Lastly, this mascara doesn't transfer or smudge throughout the day and it doesn't flake like The Falsies Flared does. I only notice very minor flaking if I've attempted to comb through my lashes with a lash comb.

I overall love the way this mascara makes my lashes look. It does make them look a little bit longer and much fuller. I've also noticed that it holds up well through the night.. I've slept with this mascara a few times and my lashes still looked good the following morning.

The price of this mascara is also very affordable. I spotted it for $4.97 at Wal-mart.

What did you think of this mascara?

  9. I haven't tried the Flared one yet and not sure if I will as I didn't like the regular one at all. I feel like it seperates lashes too much that they look so thin and weak :/ It does do a good job lengthening though, your lashes are definitely the proof for that! :)

  11. I have the falsies flared and I'm not a huge fan, so maybe I'll try the original and see how that fares. I love that you use pictures , I find those reviews the most helpful!

  18. i can't wait to buy this mascara. I tried Benefits Bad Gal and boy does that one work great but I don't think that I can spend 22 dollars on just a mascara lol Thanks for the great review.

  19. I have this mascara and I'm pretty happy with it although I don't think I will repurchase. I'm always looking for the next best thing. I saw a new Maybelline mascara called the mega plush lash the other day that looks pretty amazing, have you seen it? I think I will be trying that one next after I finish up my current mascara.
