To be completely honest, I have no idea what the difference between the "flared" version and regular version are. I looked on the Maybelline website and the product description for both were the same. If you do know, please let me know in the comments!
Some of you may already know, my favorite mascara for the past couple of years has been Covergirl Lash Blast (the regular orange tube - although the purple and red tubes are fine too) But as of lately, I've been a bit bored with the same mascara for such a long time. Recently I picked up a few Maybelline mascaras to test out, and I've been using The Falsies Flared daily for a couple of weeks now.
First things first, the packaging and wand. The packaging is pretty simple, but I think it's really pretty, especially with the wings design on the cap (I suppose they're supposed to represent long, curled lashes), but it is a much prettier tube to have in my clear cosmetic bag rather than the bulky orange tube of Lash Blast. I personally love the wand. It's not plastic, which is a nice change and is large, fluffy and slightly curved. It makes applying mascara very simple to the top and bottom lashes. **bear in mind that if you have very short or sparse lashes, this wand may give you a bit of trouble as it is pretty large.
The actual formula of the mascara is quite good too. It does seem to lengthen my lashes (nothing too dramatic though) and it's easy to build volume with continuous strokes of the brush. It is a little bit of a drier formula, so I find that it works best to apply a second coat right away, because if you wait to long, the first coat may be a little too dry, resulting in flaking or clumping. I think this mascara does a great job separating, and I rarely have to use a lash comb to separate any clumps.
Here are my lashes with two coats of mascara. Looks great!
Lastly, throughout the day, there are no smudges/transfer below my eyes - which is a total score for me because most mascaras I end up trying will transfer throughout the day. My only complaint about this mascara is that IT FLAKES! It's nothing horrifying, but I do have to check my mirror every few hours because there will for sure be a few little tiny flakes that have landed on my cheeks. Definitely not a mascara you want to take a nap in and then plan on going out afterward, because flake city will be sitting under your eyes. *sigh*
I can deal with the very mild flaking because I really do like the appearance of this mascara on my lashes, and I will re-purchase if I find it on a sale that's too good to pass up - but I will be exploring my other options.
I purchased the regular version of The Falsies, and haven't tried it yet, but I will post a review for it as well (if the formula is any different? As of now, I don't know if it is).
Have you tried this mascara? What did you think of it?
I tried the waterproof version and it clumped my lashes. =(
ReplyDeleteJoyce - Ugh, what a disappointment. I haven't tried a waterproof mascara in ages.
ReplyDeleteI've only tried the regular version of it and meh... clump central! I've gone back to my HG Covergirl lash blast. Such a shame, as I love maybelline. :(
ReplyDeleteYour lashes look great. I'm definitely going to pick this up since I'm looking for a new mascara. I really liked the regular falsies.
ReplyDeleteI have the regular version and its ok, but nothing i would be wowed by. I also have the covergirl lashblast and that one I absolutely hate! I feel like the brush is so big i always end up having the mascara everywhere - lids especialy! My favorite is loreal volumissime and make up forever smokey lash!
ReplyDeletehavent tried it but it looks promising :D

Makeup and Macaroons - Aw really?? I always go back to Lash Blast too. I'm just so sick of the wand =\
ReplyDeleteSara - Thank you! I can't wait to try the regular one :)
PlumFoolery - I know what you're saying about Lash Blast. I love the formula, but I hate the brush and the packaging. For some reason, after a couple weeks of use, it becomes a little difficult to twist shut completely.. and despite there is a lot of product in Lash Blast, I don't think it lasts any longer. I always manage to poke myself in the face with the wand too lol. I'll check both of those out! I haven't tried either of them!
Raech - It is pretty good in comparison to many other d/s mascaras I've tried! :)
I bought this a while ago and still haven't decided if I like it or not. I pretty much am indifferent to everything I've tried lately. I NEED SOMETHING THAT WOWS ME!
ReplyDeleteI do like how this mascara works
ReplyDeleteI tried the regular version of Falsies. I think the difference between the two is the wand because the wand is straight on the regular Falsies. No matter what I try, I always keep going back to Lash Blast. I love that mascara.
ReplyDeleteI used lash blast forever and I actually switched to falsies after that and I really loved how dramatic it was, but I found after a while that the flaking got more dry and my eyelashes were coming out! Needless to say I couldn't use it anymore but I still use it every once and a while. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletebtw I just found your blog and I love it. I'm following you now!

This is a pretty decent drugstore mascara but I've been using this for quite some time now and I'm in the search for something better.. I do have to say the waterproof one is completely garbage. Flakes, clumps, a big hot mess if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteGreat review
xo
I did a review on this mascara actually (the regular one) and really disliked it. I found it flaked too, but also made my eyelashes really clumpy. I know you probably won't try it because it is too expensive, but my favorite mascara is CoverGirl Last Blast (original) with Lancome Virtuouse over top. If you don't want to re-purchase the Lancome Virtuouse, you can buy a tube of L'oreal Voluminous and it does the same. HOWEVER, it is Lancome's brush that works magic. Once you have the brush, the L'oreal mascara is a cheaper option, but hands down Lancome Virtuouse is one of the best mascaras I have ever found!

This is my holy grail mascara. Seriously, nothing else that I've tried to date compares.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried the waterproof "Black Drama" and also the "Flared". The Black Drama is a very dark black and gives great volume. It's dryer and very prone to clumping. However, I would not give it up for the world because it gives me volume, length, staying power, AND the elusive curling power (difficult to obtain for short and fine Asian lashes like mine).
The "Flared" version is a thinner formula. This gives a little less volume but the formula is less clumpy. Staying power, curl, and length are still the same.
For everyday, I use the Flared version. For nights, I use the "Black Drama" one.
Sorry, I meant to say I have NOW tried...;)
ReplyDeleteI have tried it and I actually really like it.
ReplyDeleteI used the regular Maybelline Falsies for a while and loved it. I then switched to the waterproof version and it made my lashes super clumpy and hurt my eyes. I now use Loreal Voluminous mascara and love it! :)
ReplyDeleteI have tried the original version and really loved it altough it clumps and flakes on me like crazy. Would like to try the Black Drama and Flared versions though!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the Flared version but have tried the regular kind and loved it!
ReplyDeleteYour lashes look AMAZING... Definitely want to try the flared version.

Have to say : I LOVE YOUR BLOG! I check it every day, and your my #1 go to blog for makeup reviews.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Rimmel's mascara,The MAX Volume Flash (in the pink tube) ? It's my new favorite, goes on smooth, creates tons of volume, can be layered, and does not clump or flake. You have to try it and let us know what you think.
too bad that it flakes. i have been avoiding maybelline mascaras for the past five years just because i used to use all of their in high school and it they all flaked on me like crazy!! (except full n soft). it makes your lashes look great though, really is a shame
ReplyDeleteI've tried the first one that came out and use it just as a top coat over another mascara. I found it made my lashes longer but not thicker.
ReplyDelete- E. x
I know I am late, but I really love this mascara! I keep an extra one at all time just in case! Lol
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons why I like visiting your blog so much is because it has become a daily reference I can use in order to learn new nice stuff. It's like a curiosities box that surprises you over and over again.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if this version is better than the falsies black drama (non waterproof)
ReplyDeleteWow! it looks amazing! Great review:)
