Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Foundation and Sponge Set Review and Discount Code!

Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Foundation

Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Foundation and Sponge Set

Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Foundation and Sponge Set ($55) is a newly launched foundation and application tool created by Shu Uemura that work hand in hand together to make your skin glow.

The idea behind this new foundation was to provide a foundation with high coverage, yet not taking away the beautiful natural glow of the skin. With full coverage foundations, you tend to block out the natural finish of your skin and the skin can sometimes look flat and unnatural. The goal with this foundation is to make your skin look beautiful and glowing in any lighting circumstance while concealing your flaws. It's also moisturizing and long lasting.

The consistency of the foundation is very thin and lightweight, yet creamy and easily blendable. Because of the light texture, I didn't expect it to cover much, but I was really surprised to see that with a small amount, it has a solid medium coverage that is buildable to full - or with less product, it provides a nice skin-like light coverage. It looks very fresh and glowing on the skin and to me looks like a tinted moisturizer, but with more coverage.

It lasts fairly well throughout the day even without a setting powder, although I prefer to set with a light powder because if I don't, I find that this foundation can slightly highlight my pores and by the end of the day the foundation will have faded a bit.

Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Foundation Before and After Photos
Before and after wearing one layer of Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Foundation.

The shade I tried was #555 and it's a peachy medium/tan shade suitable for around the MAC NC40-42 coloring. It's slightly too dark for me at the moment, so right now I'd probably go down one shade.

The numbering system with Shu Uemura might be a little tricky to newcomers, but when choosing a foundation from Shu, know that the foundations starting with the digit "3" are pink based, "5" are neutral and "7" are warm/yellow. The middle number ranges from the darkest to lightest, with the lowest number being the darkest and the highest number being the lightest. So for example, the shade 354 is darker than 364. If it sounds a little confusing, Shu Uemura has launched a foundation finder tool featuring photos of several beauty bloggers with different skin tones wearing the Lightbulb Foundation so you can get a better idea of what color you might be.

The Lightbulb Sponge (which is actually shaped like a lightbulb) is a reusable sponge applicator much like the Beauty Blender, where you can pat the foundation onto your skin for a seamless finish. The shape of the sponge allows you to hold it comfortably in the middle groove with your thumb, pointer and middle finger. The more pointed side works well for reaching small crevices, such as around the eyes, nose, mouth and hairline, and the larger rounded side for larger areas such as the cheeks, chin and forehead. I found the sponge really easy to use - all you do it put a little product on the end of the sponge and start out in the middle of the face with light tapping motions and gradually bring the sponge outwards until your whole face is covered and foundation is well blended.

My sample only lasted me for a few wears, but I loved wearing this foundation and I highly recommend trying it out if you're looking for a full coverage foundation with a radiant, glowing finish that doesn't look or feel heavy on the skin.

As a bonus for my readers, Shu Uemura provided a discount code for my readers for 15% OFF YOUR ORDER + FREE SHIPPING with the code: LIGHTNATTY.

Also, if you want to read up a little more on the foundation, one of my favorite bloggers The RAEviewer just posted a review for this foundation as well!

  21. Hi lovely!!

Just wondering how this compares to the YSL touche eclat or MAC face and body.. I recently tried Clarins illuminating foundation and it made my skin look 1 dimensional and covered, rather than that dewy but yet flawless look and feel. I was wondering if this foundation has a dupe?.. I also just purchased Koh Gen Do aqua but found their shades run too pale.. Please I look forward to hearing back from you :-)))))
