Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer Lip Balm
I was recently chosen to be a Ladies Home Journal Beauty Ambassador for their first-ever reader beauty awards! I'm so honored and excited to be apart of their program, and in the meantime, I have a bunch of lip products to share with you (courtesy of Ladies Home Journal) that I'll be posting about throughout the week. The first lip product I'll be talking about is Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer.
Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer Lip Balms is a product I've always noticed, but never purchased. I always figured they are a little expensive for a lip balm, and would end up going to the dollar rack and picking up a tube of strawberry Carmex. It's funny how certain products that get no hype in the beauty blogosphere get neglected on the racks, because had I known sooner, I would have picked up a couple a while back. Formulated with moisturizing ingredients such as: Coconut and sunflower oil, Vitamin E, Beeswax and Shea Butter, these lip shimmers are 100% natural.
These lip balms are flavored with Peppermint, so they give your lips a nice, cooling sensation and slight tingle that sticks around for a bit. That may or may not be your cup-of-tea, but I love lip products that provide a small burst of refreshment to my lips.
Lip Shimmers are available in twelve (12) shades: Cherry, Plum, Strawberry, Caramel, Champagne, Fig, Guava, Peony, Radiance, Raisin, Rhubarb and Watermelon.
I own five, three of them being newly released shades - Cherry, Plum, Strawberry, and two shades that have been around - Caramel and Rhubarb.
Strawberry is a soft, natural pink, Caramel is a sheer, bronzed tan, Plum is a deep raisin, Cherry is a sheer, warm red and rhubarb is a cool-rosy red. For those of you freaked out by shimmer, don't fear because these little tubes are incredibly subtle. Caramel is the only shade that's noticeably frosty, but it's not overwhelming. (See swatches at the end of this post)

My favorite color from the bunch is of course Strawberry, as I'm a lover of easily wearable light pinks.

These balms are extra creamy and feel really moisturizing and soft on my lips. The moisturizing effect actually sticks around for a short while after it's worn off, but I typically like to re-apply a little bit after a few hours.
All shades are sheer, but build very nicely with a few extra swipes of the tube. I was actually surprised by how pigmented they are once built.
Swatches from left to right: Strawberry, Caramel, Plum, Cherry and Rhubarb.
I know I'll be keeping these in my bag all summer long for a little pop of color, a little shine and loads of moisture.
Price: $5 each at your local drugstore.
OMG I WANT! I have like all the revlon lip butters lol I love anything moisturising and pigmented! woo!!
ReplyDeletehaha! They are pretty addicting. I can't stop applying them to my lips. I have three Revlon lip butters and haven't tested them out yet. I can't wait to see how they compare!
DeleteSo what camera are you using? I'm curious what you decided?
ReplyDeleteHey Jess,
DeleteWell, I'm still using my new Nikon P500 because I haven't had the chance to go to the store this past week to return it (I have 90 days to return it if I'm not satisfied).. so I've used it for this post and my Jewelmint post. The pictures look pretty good, don't they? And surprisingly, the colors are accurate.
My setup with my old camera was so easy and convenient. I had two daylight lamps positioned opposite of each other, and I'd photograph the products right on my computer desk on a white backround (usually computer paper or poster board). The colors were always perfectly accurate. No sunlight necessary.
The same set-up does NOT work with this camera no matter what setting I use, the colors are distorted. What did work for this post was photographing the products on a white posterboard on my floor, next to my patio window with the afternoon sunlight shining in.
This way of photographing isn't at all ideal for me because I'm limited to photographing in the morning and I'm relying on sunlight.
Not sure what to do yet, but I'm going to continue using this camera for a few days and if it's too much work, I'm going to return it and cross my fingers and hope for the best.
I'll keep you updated.
I know her photos are perfect in this post lol. Your seriously an amazing beauty blogger Natty.
DeleteThank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback. I always try my best to get good photos for you all!
Deletexoxoxo
Thanks for being so open and honest!
DeleteI am mostly curious because I want to purchase a camera, but the T3i is almost $1,000 with all the bells and whistles, and the one you have is half. So if you liked the quality I would def check it out before I spent all my money on one thing.
I too think you are a great blogger. Definitely one of my favorite bloggers. I appreciate that you communicate with us fellow bloggers so freely!
Well, good luck and keep me posted! =)
I've used them in the past but found the formula to be oddly drying on the lips :S I'll definitely have to give them a try sometime.
ReplyDeleteReally? Just about everything is drying on my lips, but these have worked pretty well for me so far. Hopefully that doesn't change! I've tried so many drying lip balms. Smith's Rosebud Salve is still my favorite for a hydrating, clear balm.
DeleteI have the rhubarb flavoured one and I love it ...the peppermint adds a tingling feeling which leaves my lips so soft!

I've been using these for a while now. I've finished up Merlot from ages ago and now I'm using Rhubarb :) just gives my lips the necessary moisture, cool feeling and hint of color whenever I need a break from lipsticks :)

ReplyDeleteYummm!!! I want these, A very cute 12 shade it is. It is nice to heard thati think it is available at http://sfrbeauty.com/.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them! I had Champagne and found it gritty and super drying on my lips... maybe I had a bad one?
ReplyDeleteIs it a frosty shade? Balms that contain shimmer have typically drying for me, but these particular shades have little to none. I didn't find any of them gritty. Maybe Champagne is one of their worse shades from the line.
DeleteThese look nice, I need to try one soon
ReplyDeleteThe Strawberry one looks super gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThese were actually some of my first forrays into the world of colored products on my lips. I think I wore Rhubarb, which in retrospect was a terrible choice for my color. Oh well! Loving the look of Cherry.
ReplyDeleteI agree it is a little pricey, but I like the color it gives off and how tiny/travel-friendly the tube is.
