Shu Uemura Anti-Oxi Premium Cleansing Beauty Oil
Shu Uemura Anti-Oxi Premium Cleansing Beauty Oil ($37 for 5 fl. oz.) is Shu Uemura's most popular cleansing oil. It targets dull skin caused by daily environment stresses, and for those concerned with anti-aging. There are (6) different cleansers to target the needs of specific skin types, but they all commonly remove makeup gently and effectively while maintaining the skin's natural level of moisture. Not only will the Anti-Oxi cleanser remove makeup, but it will work deep in your pores to remove dirt and sweat as well as pollutants that can speed up the aging process of your skin. When searching for a cleanser, I usually opt for gentle cleansers because my skin type is very "normal" and if I use anything too harsh, it dries my skin out. It might sound a little foolish but most gentle cleansers bore the heck out of me because many of them lack all of the lather, which I feel makes cleansing somewhat fun or gratifying. Although the suds are sometimes what make us feel clean - Well, the suds are typically a factor in what causes the skin to become stripped of oils and dry in the first place. I'm trying to be a bit more mindful of the ingredients in my skincare products, and I've become more accustomed to using different oils in my routine. The word "oil" can be scary at first for beginners because when some of us think of putting oil on our face (especially those with acne-prone or sensitive skin), the words break-outs and clogged pores come to mind. That's not exactly the case. Some oils might not agree with your skin, sure. But there are many that are excellent for your skin in many different ways. If you wear face makeup regularly, especially medium and full coverage formulations, you can most certainly benefit from using cleansing oils.
I went through the ingredients list in the Shu Uemura Anti/Oxi Cleansing Oil and found that it's combined with some pretty great things. The first ingredient is Mineral Oil - one of the most common oils used in cosmetics and skincare for it's moisturizing capabilities without irritating the skin or clogging the pores. It also contains Cornstarch, which is used to absorb excess sebum and oil on the skin (so you won't be left an oil slick) as well as many great moisturizing oils and antioxidants. Some include: Safflower oil, Jojoba oil, Macadamia Seed oil, Moringa oil (great for purifying and rejuvenating the skin, aids with moisture retention and anti-ageing), Green tea extract and Gingko Biloba (antioxidant, helps increase blood flow, etc).
The directions are to apply 3-4 pumps onto dry hands and massage onto dry skin and rinse with water. The oil has a nice, light warming feeling on the skin, and once water comes in contact with the oil, the oil foams up (or rather turns milky and white) - it's a pretty cool aspect of the oil so you know that it's all rinsed away. One full pump is way more than enough product for my skin, which is a great thing given the price of this cleanser. I always use a separate oil to remove my eye makeup, such as grapeseed oil to save product.
It has a light, pleasant earthy smell - it's a little woody with sweet ginger and hint of lime. I don't find that it lingers once washed away.
I really like my way it makes my skin feel refreshed and clean without the dryness. It also seems to remove every trace of makeup on my skin - even my heavy foundations. I like that it's quick, simple and effective. Nothing is more tedious to me than a long cleansing routine - I'd rather just grab a makeup wipe and call it a night than spend several minutes scrubbing my face. This cleanser saves me time, which I love!
Now that I've tried the Anti-Oxi formula, I'm really curious to try the others and see which one I like the best. I have small samples of each formula, so I'll make sure to keep you updated!

The Round-Up
Pros:
- Gentle - doesn't strip or dry out my skin
- Helps my skin stay balanced
- Helps keep my skin looking radiant
- Removes makeup quickly and effectively
- No facial brushes/tools are necessary
- There are some who are sensitive to mineral oil in facial products - for new skincare products, always try a sample first and patch test on your skin.
- It's a very pricey cleanser, so it won't be for everyone.
First off, love yours nails. Second, AGH, I wasn't expecting to fall in love with your description of this product. It sounds amazing and just like what I need! I like that it turns a milky white because even though it doesn't foam, it kind of mimics it and I like that :) Makes me feel extra clean for whatever reason. I'll for sure be checking this one out! Do you use another cleanser after this one or just go straight to toning and moisturizing?

Thank you!!
DeleteI feel the same way! I feel like I need a cleanser (whether it be a shampoo, body wash, hand wash, etc) to lather a little bit so I can feel like I'm actually cleaning my skin. I only use this cleanser followed by a toner and moisturizer.
Your nail polish looks awesome! I like how cleansing oil turning milky white. Usually my skin loves cleansing oils, so I have to try it. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Me too! It's my favorite part.

Deletehi, mineral oil is a distillate of petroleum - and is well known as clogging pores - people who are prone to it should definitely avoid applying mineral oils (or paraffinum liquidum) on face- especially the T-zone.
ReplyDeleteI've tried many different cleansers before, but never a cleansing oil. Would this still be ok to use if you have acne-prone skin?
ReplyDeleteWe all react differently to different oils, so a patch test is always your best bet. Some swear by removing their makeup with mineral oil and it has helped them loads, while others can break out from it. If you're very acne prone, sometimes it helps to follow with another cleanser.
DeleteA my gosh this sounds fabulous, I like that it's a nice light scent nothing too heavy.
